MORE DEATHS FROM AIR POLLUTION THAN ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 4.5 million people die from air pollution every year, a far greater number than those killed in road traffic accidents. The air inside a vehicle can be up to 15 times more polluted than the air outside.

Poor cabin air quality is not only caused by bacteria, viruses and other pathogens, but also by aerosols and exhaled droplets. Other unhealthy substances are the vapours from solvents, adhesives and man-made materials like plastics inside the vehicle, as well as mould that grows inside poorly maintained heating and air-conditioning systems. Furthermore, every time the doors, windows or sunroof are opened, large quantities of contaminated air floods into the cabin. This is particularly pronounced in cities with high levels of particulates, nitrogen oxide and smog, as well as in tunnels and at fuel stations.

Standard vehicle filter systems are unable to scrub this heavily polluted air, making it all the more vital to remove harmful elements using the AELUS car air purification system.

THE NEW STANDARD FOR AUTOMOBILE CABIN AIR QUALITY

AELUS combines conventional air purification via a highly efficient HEPA H13 filter with the latest photo catalysis using an UV-A / UV-C light system. This two-tier cleansing process efficiently reduces pollutants and germs whilst avoiding the formation of harmful ozone or the emission of UV-C radiation.

An average vehicle cabin is cleaned five to six times per hour. This exceeds the air cabin change of five times or more per hour as recommended by the Federal Environment Agency.

As an anti-virus air filter, AELUS fights viruses in two ways:

1) HEPA H13 filter with an effectiveness of 99.95% (according to EN1822) for particles larger than 0.3 µm. This means that even the finest particles such as aerosols, viruses, bacteria, smog particles and mould spores can be removed.

2) The patented photo-catalysis section downstream of the HEPA filter is the second stage of the killer function for viruses and other harmful substances. The self-cleaning surface of the titanium dioxide-coated fleece has an antiviral / antibacterial effect that destroys any remaining viruses using LED production of UV-A and UV-C radiation. This two-pronged attack effectively eradicates the germs and other harmful micro-organisms that even the best paper filters cannot deal with.

This patented German-developed state-of-the-art cleaning technology was created in close cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute IST.

As in motorsport, a major goal was optimum efficiency through minimal weight. But while low weight in racing is aimed at optimising driving dynamics, every gram shaved off the AELUS unit results in greater occupant safety in the event of an accident.

The AELUS is well below the 1000 g limit mandated by law for interior accessories attached to a seat headrest.
